Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Party

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of heroes, and a exciting storyline showcasing divine entities, fiends, and malevolent powers growing in influence within the urban setting.

Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The third episode ended with a huge suspense moment and introduced the initial group of characters who will separate from the main group to embark on their separate journey, distinct from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team features Teor (portrayed by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

Given 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

Hence, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for participants who enjoy a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where non-violent answers are rare.

Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might appear unsuited, but the developments of the latest installment make it clear why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the group knows exactly where to go next after a violent initial meeting with the antagonists.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose demise kicked off the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, breaking into the hidden lair, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the powerful objects to auction.

Casimir then cleared his debts and fled to a secure base in the remote area, beyond the urban center, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each member has a individual motive to depart the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, desires retribution.
  • Kattigan knows the region and cautions that it is a nasty environment.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their position as important members in the powerful family could help the team reach areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, Teor pledged a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are sought by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The hero are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The healer turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This leaves them little choice but to journey toward the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

According to the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the remaining eight participants to round up the Seekers and Planners parties.

Fans can expect discovering which characters will be assigned to which table in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on next week.
