Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille in a Shootout to Lift Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now won the prestigious trophy on 14 different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the match between the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele found the net in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille fired twice in the closing moments to take a surprise advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital leveler in the dying moments to force the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving crucial attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 penalty win.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the past thirteen years.
