Tetris Wouldn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Might Solve This

Whenever a significant honors show draws close, there’s always an outcry for the addition additional classifications to acknowledge overlooked contributions and fill the hearts of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. Equally deserving are tabletop games, this being someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize since similar to blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification for why my demand is the most urgent and significant. This is the request: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and typically start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason film award organizations avoid this approach. However, it represents an essential concession for the industry of gaming, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.

To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Existing Game Classification System

The major gaming awards currently feature genre categories for Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these classifications actually cover numerous genres, and you can find room accommodating various experiences.

Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears for their placement. Think about these outstanding current releases, all very different: building puzzles of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. Which classification works within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games published annually without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match award groups including Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive Indie races.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated completely during that awards season
  • Another creative title was excluded in 2019
  • Well-received sorting experience got ignored that year
  • Limited numbers of brain-teasers scraped into independent or mobile categories

Significance of Puzzle Games

These are often modest productions, but the art in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles count as most engaged experiences globally maintaining this status for an extended period.

The iconic tile-matching title rivals well-known building titles for the title of best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.

The Solution and Justification

Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. One could readily select a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude so many good games out.

Restating the point, these include experiences without proper classification at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators function at the hard edge interactive creation, producing among the purest expressions of the video game form. Similar to film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay decades.
